Cancún Bound!
What's the Special Event?
Congrats to my cousin, who got married in June 2023! Back in March 2022, she sent out invites for a destination wedding in Cancún. Now, being probably the only one in our friends group who will hold a destination wedding, she is really milking the destination wedding theme (and I love that for her).

And so, her invites were passports! The concept is ADORABLE.

Although the invites she sent out were cute and well thought out, there were a few things I would like to redesign if I had the chance.

Here is the original:

From left to right, we have the front, back, and the inside.
Things I'm not a fan of:

-
The gradient in the front seems like a printer mishaps, however, it was intentional.
-
The date of the wedding (6.24.23) is written four times throughout the invite, and is mistyped once.
-
The fonts are inconsistent and the signatures are not actual signatures, where I feel like it'd be more meaningful.
-
Although I understand this invite is to have me watch them join together for the rest of their lives, if I want to hang this invite on my fridge, I'd like a different picture of them where they're not so intimate.
-
The arrows on the bottom are facing the wrong way (supposed to be < instead of >)
-
I wish it looked a little more like a passport (but not so much that I'd mistaken the two if I was in a rush running to the airport).
-
(If you're confused about the food on the bottom, those are the names of the four pets they have, not their favorite food.)
Things I love:
-
The concept
-
The repetition
-
How they included their pets
How would I change it?
-
I'd make the cover blue like the US passport, since most, if not every, guest is an American citizen.
-
Triple check spelling errors.
-
Keep font consistent and give actual signatures.
-
A different picture where they're still cute together, but not kissing.

From left to right, we have the front, back, and the inside.

Things that I've changed:
-
The cover of the passport - I've made it resemble a US passport in color and font, however, I've added Mexico as a clear destination on the cover.
-
I've changed the inside cover to have a sneak peek of the Mexican scenery (picture by yours truly) as many of the invitees have never been to Mexico.
-
At most, there are two different fonts (just italicized and capitalized to seem like different fonts).
-
I've added (fake) signatures to make it seem more customized.
-
Although I do like the stamp on the top page, I believe that international stamps go in the middle of the booklet so I took it out and extra date as the code at the bottom of the page.
-
Because I was a little confused by their Type P/Code Union, I changed it so that it says Type Destination/Code MEX, similar to how the US passport say Code USA. Although our passport does say Type P, I thought it would've been cute to say Type Destination
-
Some of the subject lines have been switched out because I thought different info could have been added while others are repeated often. For example, because their names have already been clearly written three times, I switched that out with the travel agent, which the bride has been verbally explaining to everyone.
-
I changed the bottom so that the arrows are pointing the correct way (yes, I did pull out my passport for this).
-
I kept the same format of the name and date on the back to keep the back looking classy and not empty.
Things that I've kept the same:
-
Because the bride did most of the heavy planning, I had wanted to put her name first (i.e. Cece and Andrew). However, it seems like she wanted it to be "Andrew and Cece".
-
The invite wording stayed the same as I thought this was something they wanted to convey themselves.
-
I kept the pets on the bottom as I thought it was cute that they included their pets.
-
The inside stayed a bit of the same sandy color, although a different shade from the original.
-
I thought using the date as passport number was pretty smart so I also kept that.
If budget and time allowed...

...I would have included a boarding pass.
In addition to the main wedding, the couple have planned and subsidized excursions provided by the resort. Instead of having a boarding pass that would be repeating the information, a boarding pass that tells guests about the optional excursions would be a great way to help people plan their vacation!
